The Academy for Visual and Performing Arts - Visual Arts (AVPA - Visual) concentration is a college preparatory program, specializing in technology, art, video production and animation, publishing, and multimedia. This Academy educates and prepares students who have demonstrated a strong interest in the fields of visual arts, media production, graphic arts and publishing.
Students study every essential aspect of the visual art field through immersion in a curriculum that embraces new technology while still emphasizing traditional skills and principles of art and design. Classes focus on the melding of technology, art and printing.
Students engage in a real world curriculum that is driven by high expectations, computer graphics instruction, video production and graphic imaging technologies. In addition to rigorous courses in math and science, core classes include visual arts and graphic communications, design and production techniques, publishing, and digital imaging.
Students in AVPA’s visual arts concentration are required to maintain a portfolio which exhibits a high degree of creativity as well as technical proficiency. Because of the school’s proximity to the creative epicenter of the world, its students have access to internships in literally hundreds of production houses that support the art and imaging needs of prestigious area businesses. Educational/Professional partnerships include: The International Graphic Arts Education Association, The Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, NAPL, The Record, and Elle Magazine.
Prospective students must present a portfolio.
